PURPOSE-REASONS AND FACTS ABOUT GENEALOGIES:
Did you know that the Bible has Birth Records (genealogy) in it? In the first book called GENESIS, which means BEGINNINGS, it not only lists the names of those born after Adam and Eve, it also records their death dates, ages at the time of death, and the ages of the Fathers, when their first male offspring were born into the family of this newly created earth. Birth Records were recorded by our first parents, so that future generations (you and I) would know of our human origins! What Heavenly Father who claims to be a God of Love, not want His Creation to KNOW THEIR ORIGINS and CREATOR? What individual on planet earth, does not want to know who their biological Parents and Grand-Parents were? If one could know or find out who their Ancestors were, back to the beginning of time, who in their right mind would pass up such an opportunity to KNOW those pertinent facts at hand?
These Birth Records (called a Genealogy) found in Genesis chapter 5 and chapter 11, are often glossed over when reading Genesis, because such, after all, appears to be quite boring and uninformative to the untrained eye and unlearned brain, apart from the Spirit of God. But to the ardent Bible student, we know that EVERY SINGLE WORD from God, was settled in Heaven -(Psa 119:89), and was purposefully designed to give unto us, knowledge, purpose and understanding, for our learning and edification, that we MIGHT BELIEVE on Him who freely gave it unto us -(Rom 15:4). Hence, upon closer inspection, a little more thorough investigation and with critical analysis, it is quite evident that this Genealogy of Births was given to us, for us, by God's hand of Divine Providence, for at least, 5-reasons below:
1) For All Future Generations To Know the Exact CHRONOLOGICAL TIME-FRAME of their Creation and ORIGINS
2) To Trace Prophetic Blood-Line thereof to Recognize the PROMISED MESSIAH When He Finally arrived
3) To Refute These Last-Day Pseudo-Scientist Specious Evolutionary Timelines For Origins
4) To Reveal GOD's MASTER SALVATION MESSAGE unto All Future Generations
5) To Reveal The Hand of God Who Inspired The Writing of Scriptures
The Reason listed in numbers 1, 2 and 3 above are self-explanatory, but what about that number 4-Reason above? Really? How does a bunch of numbers, names and years reveal a Master Salvation Message from God? Well for starters, lets begin with 1, 2 & 3 above! According to Number-1 above, CHRONOLOGICAL TIME-FRAME OF ORIGINS, we live on a relatively Young Earth, approximately 6,000-years old, not millions or billions of years old, as many so foolishly proclaim today, despite the overwhelming Scientific Facts and evidence against such OLD-AGE THEORY, not to mention the overwhelming odds of the Mathematical Improbabilities against it. Which brings us to the 2nd Reason stated above!
Reason Number 2 is obvious for the mere fact that God foretold of this SEED of the WOMAN (virgin birth) who would CRUSH the head of the devil, once He had finally arrived on the scene and would undo the works of the devil by saving mankind from their sin. This is the MAIN REASON why they kept Birth Records in the first-place! These meticulous Genealogies were meant to trace and verify this Promised Messiah (Jesus) of Gen 3:15 accordingly, whose purpose and manifestation was to: "destroy the works of the devil" - (1John 3:8)
It appears that Reason 3-above, God had intended to put this Genealogy into the EARTH RECORD, because He who knows the end from the Beginning of all things -(Isa 46:10), and foreknew of these future Pseudo-Scientists -(1Tim 6:20-21) to come, would indeed suppress the truth in unrighteousness (Rom 1:18-22), by disseminating lies, cloaked with pseudo-scientific psycho-babble, alleging LONG AGES OF TIME as the Age of Earth and of our Time-Frame for Human Origins! Evolution my friend, are mere smoke and mirrors, baseless, a mythological, fabricated fairy-tale and a down-right fraud of a theory. The 5th Reason above speaks for itself. God has proven to us, via Prophecy, that HE must be the AUTHOR of the Holy Scriptures and that men were mere tools! - (1Pe 1:20-21) . But back to that number-4 Reason above! How does number-4 reason above reveal God's Salvation Plan and Message via this Genealogy of Names, Numbers and Years? Scripture teaches that a GOOD-NAME is better than precious ointment for the sick. Scripture also reveals that biblical characters gave their offspring Names that had meanings and often portrayed the character/calling of their off-spring accordingly! Some, I assume, simply asked God, "WHAT NAME should I give my child" and NO DOUBT, God evidently answered those commonly offered generational prayers! Finally, some names in the Genealogical Record were given by Divine intervention, as evidence elsewhere in scripture with the giving of names, by Angels, to John the Baptist and Jesus himself, whose name means; GOD WILL SAVE!
We also see within the Holy scriptures, God assigning new names with everyone He came into contact with, like Abram, whose name was changed to Abraham which now means; “Father of many”. And then, there was Abraham's wife Sari, which was changed to Sarah. Then there was Jacob, whose name was changed to Israel. Then there was Simon, whose name was changed to Peter, then there was Saul, whose name was changed to Paul, just to name a few! Hence, it should be of no great surprise, if we discover that God has also revealed His PLAN OF SALVATION within the very NAMES and their subsequent MEANINGS, given to the descendants of Adam and Eve accordingly!
Just one final Factoid about Names, before we get to the ANSWER for REASON NUMBER 4-above! On this intriguing topic of Names, know that one-day, Jesus is going to give us all, NEW NAMES, which will be written upon a White Stone, personally made by Him and gifted to YOU, and THAT NAME will only be known between YOU and HIM forever! Therefore God has highly exalted Him and given Him a name which is
above every name, that at the name of JESUS every knee should bow, of
heavenly ones and earthly ones, and of those under the earth; that every
tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father!
